Top Five Tips for Instant Stress Relief stress management

Posted by burnett on 08 May 2008 | Tagged as: Uncategorized

Although everyone is under stress every day, some stress is good for you. You can learn to manage your stress so that as soon as you become stressed, you can apply instant stress relief.

Here are five tips to help you to relieve your stress, and get your stress completely under control. When these five tips become a daily habit, you will sail through your day, and will know how to live your life without stress.

1. Breathe — it’s important to learn to breathe properly

Although breathing is automatic, when we are under stress breathing can be constricted, it may even stop altogether. So when you’re under a lot of tension you hold your breath without even knowing that you are doing it.

2. Relax your body — relaxation is important and it will make you more productive

Babies don’t suffer from stress because they’re naturally relaxed. You can regain the natural relaxation of babyhood, if you learn to relax your body — become as limp as cooked spaghetti.

You can buy tapes and CDs, which will teach you the art of relaxation. They are well worth the investment.

The best way to use a short relaxation tape or CD program is to listen to it at night before you go to sleep. It will take you at least a month, of listening to your tape every evening, before it you can relax at will. However once you learn it to do this, you will be able to relax during periods which would normally have caused you extreme stress.

4. Identify your emotions, and let them go

We are often tense because we hang on to our emotions. You’ll be surprised that when you learn to let go of emotions, they disappear naturally.

Here’s how to do that.

During your day, stop what you’re doing and ask yourself what you are feeling. Whatever the emotion is, feel it as deeply as you can, and then ask yourself just to let the emotion go. There’s no stress involved with this and no attempt to push an emotion away, you’re just letting the emotion go.

This sounds difficult, but it’s actually quite easy. Try now. Just identify it your current emotion, and then let it go.

5.  Keep a journal

The best way to work with your stress, is to keep a journal. Your journal helps you to get your emotions onto the page. You’ll find once you’ve got your emotions on the page, they no longer affect you. It’s a way of letting them go.

You don’t need to write in your journal every day, but when you’re under extreme stress, it’s a good idea to write in your journal several times a day.

In your journal entries, just write down what ever it is on it your mind. You don’t need to write complete sentences just try to describe what happened, and how you feel. If you wish, you can keep your journal entries on loose sheets of paper and burn them when you’re done.

So there you have five tips from instant stress relief — try them you’ll be amazed at the difference they make.

Stress Relief - 5 Simple Ways To Reduce Stress stress management

Posted by burnett on 08 May 2008 | Tagged as: Uncategorized

1) Listen to soft and relaxing music.

Listening to soft music is a stress relief tactic that you can use to relax yourself before you go to bed or even to calm yourself down. There are people who purchase alarm clocks with nature sounds or classical jazz. You can also purchase a compact disc like this with a variety of soothing sounds on it. While listening to the soothing sounds, you should focus on enjoying the moment and relaxing yourself. You will notice that when you are done with this method, your body will feel less tense and your mind will be clear. Many people love to use sounds such as a waterfall, chirping birds, or a wonderful rain shower.

2) Eat healthier and lose weight.

Not only is this one of the best stress relief methods, it is also very good for your body. The less extra body fat you have on your bones, the less stressful you will be. It is very obvious that the extra body tends to lower self esteem and produce stress. Many individuals who lose weight find that the stress level goes down and the self esteem gets a super boost of power. The big tip for this method is to choose physical activities that you love to do. A couple examples could be jogging, walking, and swimming.

It is especially smart to eat well balanced meals throughout the day. Most people make the mistake of eating one huge meal and then starving themselves the rest of the day. This is bad because your body will be starving by the time you go to bed. The best thing to do is to try and eat many fruits and vegetables with a few small meals during your eating times. Your body will stay satisfied and be able to burn a lot of the extra fat being stored in your body.

3) Get a soothing massage.

This method is often seen as a way to just relieve physical discomfort. Massage therapy is an excellent way to relax your mind too. Stress is one of the many serious reasons for stiff muscles and discomfort. A well trained therapist can loosen up the stressed muscles and help to relieve the pain. Another great thing with this method is that your mood will improve. The benefits of massage on your physical and mental health are so great that many insurance programs will actually cover the cost of a full massage.

4) Using visual metaphors.

Visualization allows you to remove yourself from reality for a short period of time, thus providing your body with rest and relaxation. To practice visualization, all you have to do is lie down in an open quiet spot. Get comfortable and close your eyes. Visualize a place that is filled with happiness and peace. Keep focused until you can literally sense all the elements of that area. Visualization will eliminate stress by reducing anxiety and calming your nerves.

5) Use deep breathing techniques.

The deep breathing technique has been used for many years as a means of reducing stress. This tends to work very well in any stressful situation. Become aware of how you are breathing in and out and make sure to deeply exhale. Try holding your breath for six seconds and then slowly release it. This stress relief method will help to slow your heart rate down and keep you as calm as possible.

The techniques in this article have been used for many years to help various individuals overcome stress. There are many more methods available online and elsewhere. Good luck and remember to stay relaxed.

Lose Your Cool or Choose The Pause That Preserves Your Personal Peace stress management

Posted by burnett on 08 May 2008 | Tagged as: Uncategorized

Stress vs. Personal Peace

When it seems like stress is building and you are about to lose your cool, a simple technique can help you regain your balance and reduce stress in the moment.

Pause. Take a break. Preserve your personal peace. Let the the conflicts, frustrations, tensions or emotions ebb and flow while you manage yourself.

Here are seven ways to pause in the midst of escalating stressful situations.

1. Breathe. It’s tried and true. Take several slow, deep breaths to steady yourself. Pay attention to the rising and falling of your abdomen as you inhale and exhale.

2. Close your eyes. Even for a moment, shut out the stressful scene and remind yourself you have a choice on how to respond. Refocus your intention and energy on what you want for yourself — maintaining your balance and inner peace in this situation. You may not be able to control the outer circumstances, but you can choose to control your reactions.

3. Imagine a peaceful scene. Take a mental vacation for a few seconds. Place yourself in your most peaceful fantasy and let this be a touchstone for preserving your personal peace in the stressful situation.

4. Tell yourself a joke. Make up a joke about the current situation or roll out the punch line of an old favorite. Find the humor in the situation or the humor in your outlook on life. Lightening up will help keep things in perspective. If you’re going to laugh and tell stories about this in two weeks, you might as well start laughing now.

5. Walk away. Whether you hike to another room, to the park, or through the back woods, you’ll be gifting yourself with a time out from the mounting stress and tension. A few minutes or a few hours can make all the difference in how you decide to handle matters and maintain your own personal peace.

6. Take a nap. Rest and regenerate. Come back to handle the situation with renewed energy, focus and intention. You will likely find it easier to hold in your personal peace.

7. Sleep on it. Defer a response. Let the stressful situation wait, whatever it is. Allow your inner wisdom to balance things out and possibly provide clear answers and action steps overnight. You may have a new perspective with much less stress in the morning when you are rested.

Another Stress Reduction Technique stress management

Posted by burnett on 08 May 2008 | Tagged as: Uncategorized

This article is mainly about how to control your stress. You will find a wonderful stress relieving technique below to help you manage or even eliminate stress.

One stress reducing method is to use your imagination to induce relaxation. The mind is a powerful tool and can easily induce relaxation. You can start this technique by doing some abdominal breathing for about five minutes to relax and wind down. Now imagine yourself in a comfortable place, maybe a hammock on a tropical beach or something else of the sort.

Now take in your surroundings, feel the warm sunshine on your body and notice how it does not only warm your body but it also warms your insides melting all your troubles away. Now listen to all the sounds around you, the birds, the palm trees waving in the nice tropical breeze, maybe even the waves crashing on the shore.

Now notice all of the colors that you are surrounded by. The brown of the tree trunks, the green of the leaves, the sea green color of the water. Take in all of the smells that come from the things around you. The salty smell of the water, the smell of a warm summer breeze, maybe even the coconut smell of suntan lotion. Use your senses to become one with nature.

Now imagine a really bright light coming down from the bright blue sky. This light is engulfing your entire body, feel the warmth and energy. This bright light is your guardian angel. You see her smiling down upon you with the bright halo on her head and a life force that is easy to absorb.

Submit herself to her completely. You should become one with her and through her become one with the universe. She is talking to you; she wants you to know how much she loves you and that she is there to protect you through anything. You can just feel the energy and vibration from her. A new sense of peace and harmony has come over you.

Now you are completely relaxed and your angel wants to share something with you. She knows that there has been something on your mind lately, a question, she wants to answer it for you. She knows what is in your heart and she fills it with knowing and understanding. Now take a couple of minutes to absorb her message, let it sink in.

Now you should thank your angel for the gift that she has given you. As you see her moving further and further away until all you seen is a faint white light, you can start coming out of your trance. Slowly open your eyes and breathe in the air around you. Wiggle your hands and feet and feel how relaxed you are. This is a great state of mind, enjoy it!

3 Simple Ways To Stop Stress stress management

Posted by burnett on 08 May 2008 | Tagged as: Uncategorized

I have been trying to search for ways that I can be more like nature. I believe nature has a way of being that invites the creative process to work through it effortlessly. So, since I have been stressed-out, trying to run an online business, I have decided to “be one with the tree”, thereby alleviating any excess stress (that would be the “bad” kind of stress).

So, what’s a girl to - a girl trying to beat the Google Adwords game? How does one turn hard earned money into clicks and the heavenly conversion. As I write this, I know the answer instantly. Just like a tree does not demand to grow or try to grow, it just grows.

It’s funny how once you stop and walk away from stress, the pieces of the puzzle seem to become more clear. Like a zen gift, it is given as soon as the question is asked with clarity. The puzzle pieces in front of me appear to resemble a giant Oak - strong with branches reaching toward the sky, and roots which give it depth and an inherent groundedness. With the mighty Oak in my mind’s eye, here is my smattering of some ways to unraveling an entrepreneur’s stressful ins and outs:

1. Don’t try to solve a problem - take action toward solving it.

Now, this does not mean to jump in the deep end with your high heels (sorry guys) and Donna Karan power suit. Take a deep breath-I know I always say this, but it’s true! The purpose is to not be in reaction mode. If your server goes down, make an appropriate phone call. In the meantime go out for a skinny vanilla latte, get a little sun, or take a quick trip to Barnes and Noble. Pick up a New York Times or a USA Today. Sometimes when you stop trying frantically to find an answer, one will magically appear.

This reminds me of the remarkable ability of the Palm Tree to bend in extreme weather. If winds have forced this tree to bend over at a nearly ninety degree angle, it will bounce right back as if it were ready to partake of its second course. Dessert anyone?

Magical fireflies light up when they are attracting their mates. These little lightening bugs of nature do not think this through-they just do it. In the meantime, they provide a wonderful show for all that are paying attention.

2. Get Enough Exercise.

Okay, I know you are busy-believe, I know. But, this is why the concept of prioritizing was developed. Don’t you hate the person that came up with that one! But, honestly the hard part is getting started. Take a half hour walk, go to the gym, use some free weights while you watch CNN or The American Idol you taped last night. Enjoy yourself knowing you are doing something good for you. No doubt you will get back to your task at hand with more confidence, energy, and a better disposition.

I recently purchased a lovely bunch of sod for my side yard. It is absolutely beautiful. It’s brand new and fresh and it is growing so fast! I can almost see the energy pulsing out of it-radiating negative ions. When we humans spend so much time in front of our computers or on our cell phone we actually begin to surround ourselves with positive ions. So, why not excelerate the good stuff and exercise in nature?

3. Take it Easy on the Junk Food.

Again, I know you are busy, but this is important. I am just getting back into the habit of this myself. Especially if you are used to “getting away” with munching on Doritos and drinking diet Coke-you have to know that your body will retaliate. Be kind to yourself. Keep a healthy supply of apples and carrots on hand. Plus yogurt and nuts, salad fixings, and lots and lots of water…now doesn’t that sound good?!

Would you give your prized geraniums root beer or maybe a little Red Bull for a pick me up? Really? Okay, look it’s perfectly fine to have pizza once in a while. Just be sensible. A splash of sprite very likely will not kill your flowers - just give them an extra splash of h2o the next time.

There are many more, but I will save those for another time. Until then, read a compelling article about the hearty palm tree or zen fireflies, walk barefoot in the grass, and pick up some geranium seeds. Then, when you are having such a stressful day that you realize you may have actually stopped breathing, take your geranium seeds, and go find a nice spot to plant them. Make sure it is a place that will get plenty of sunshine, and give them lots of fresh water. Go back to work when you are ready-you will know when you’re because you will be aware of your breathing. Then, whisper a silent “thank you”, and go back to conquer the world.

Just don’t forget to tend to your flowers, and enjoy the process of watching them grow…

Eliminate Stress - Eliminate Illness stress management

Posted by burnett on 08 May 2008 | Tagged as: Uncategorized

What do you think happens when you hate your job, or your spouse, or your kids, or your house? Did you know you get sick - literally? It’s true; and it always has been. In fact, your emotions are simply a signal to you that your body is not where it wants to be, or where you want it to be. If you don’t listen, or change your perspective, you get sick - simple as that.

Don’t think that this is a “different” kind of sick; there’s just sick - and the symptoms, pain, and suffering are all real. The good news is that you can change your situation if you want to. I know you probably haven’t been told this before; but you have been given hints. Before pharmaceutical companies came along and took over the world, everyone knew where illness came from; and we weren’t exactly dying out or going extinct. Sayings such as, “You’ll worry yourself sick,” are literal warnings about the way dis-ease really works.

When you are worried, angry, afraid, grieving, or any variation of these emotions, you are aware of it because of the way you feel; and that feeling is your visceral response to your thoughts, thought-patterns, or way of thinking. Your thoughts cause emotional responses - every single one of them. Emotions are natural, and healthy; but when they aren’t processed completely, or appropriately, they become stress. Stress has been blamed for up to 90% of all trips to the doctor’s office.

Did you follow that? Thinking causes an immediate emotional response which you feel in your body as some form of stress. Those feelings aren’t as pleasant as the feelings you have when you aren’t stressed, so we seek to soothe or medicate them with whatever we can find: Food; Candy; Alcohol; Cigarettes; Prescription drugs; Illegal drugs; Television; and a number of other distractions. Again, this is quite normal; and many of the things we call “addictions” are simply habitual escape patterns. Most of the people who go to the doctor are going because of stress-related complaints. The good new is that you can control stress if you can control your thoughts.

Here’s how it works: You have beliefs about the world - everybody does - and as you experience the world, you compare what you find “out there” to those beliefs you hold “in here.” If your beliefs tell you everything is fine and going your way, you will be relaxed. If you believe things should be a different way, or someone should change, or you think you are in danger, or life just sucks, then your stress response (fight-or-flight mechanism) will be active. Any discomfort you ever feel is due to the actions of the stress response, or the immune system as it attempts to heal you.

When you are in stress, your immune system is disabled, along with your digestive system, and reproductive system. Problems like, constipation, E.D., low libido, weight gain, gastrointestinal problems, high blood pressure, heart disease, heart attack, diabetes, Fibromyalgia, and most other chronic pain and illness, are all examples of stress-related conditions. If you are stewing in resentment, you are unwittingly keeping yourself in a state of low-immunity; and you are pumping out the stress hormones that produce and store fat. If you hate your job, for instance, and you don’t quit, you will end up sick, or in chronic pain - and you will end up getting fired, or something similar. Your body will not allow you to stay miserable forever. Unfortunately, before most of us break free from the things stressing us out - or learn to change our perspective to one of gratitude, compassion, and acceptance - we are so far gone that even if we change jobs, we are likely to be on the pharmaceutical merry-go-round with new symptoms (caused by the drugs we took for the old symptoms) we are mistakenly blaming on germs, aging, or a weak body, or some other thing we believe we have no control over.

What do you think twenty-years of hate, anger, worry, or frustration look like? Do you think you can make such judgments free of charge? Our judgments color our perception; and when we perceive ourselves as victims, we become victims. Not of our unfair boss, or unfriendly spouse - but victims of our own thoughts, judgments, and perceptions. Stress is stress; and that’s where most illness comes from. You really have to think about that one for a while; because stress is easy to eliminate. And changing your health and life is as easy as changing your mind - and keeping it changed.

3 Steps To Relax Now stress management

Posted by burnett on 08 May 2008 | Tagged as: Uncategorized

You’ve been with the kids and husband all day, or maybe just the kids as in my case, cleaning, running errands, shopping, paying bills, and anything else that might have been overlooked during the week. Today is catch up day…today is also one of the most stressful days of the week!

Can you relax and de-stress without leaving your home or buying any fancy equipment? Of course you can! What can you do to relax right now, besides joining in on the cruise your friends have all been talking about, with no kids or husband?

Well there are three things you can do right now right in your own home to help you unwind from the hectic week and day.

Go to your room (by yourself) sit on your bed, floor, lounge chair, or whatever you have…

1. Close your eyes and pay attention to your breath

2. Listen to your body

3. and be present in the moment

Paying attention to your breath forces you to focus on yourself and what you are feeling. If you deepen your breath you will relax faster. Listening to your body forces you to focus on yourself and what needs attention. Where do you have aches, pains, and tightness? Being in the present moment forces you to focus on yourself and you may be surprised to find answers you’ve been waiting for.

Take 5 minutes to do this. For some this may be torture at first, keep with it you will be amazed after your five minutes how relaxed you feel. Make this a daily habit and you will find your life beginning to be less chaotic. You will naturally learn to relax when things seem to be out of whack. Go ahead, try this and see what happens, I dare you…

Does Stress Affect Weight Loss? stress management

Posted by burnett on 08 May 2008 | Tagged as: Uncategorized

There are many different reasons for a person to loose their appetite. Both men and women are prone to loosing their appetite due to sickness or life’s stresses. Many people actually suffer such a loss of appetite that they can start to lose weight, making them fairly skinny. Such a loss in weight can lead to other health problems, including a lowered immune system. In many cases, the loss of appetite can be attributed to stress. Either life at home or life at work can become so stressful and worrisome that a person can find it difficult to relax enough to eat.

Stress is interesting in that if people didn’t suffer any stress at all, nothing would get done and if people suffer too much stress it can be harmful to the mind and body. Weight loss is just one example of how too much stress can be harmful to an individual. It could be that the person is trying to get the promotion they have been waiting to get for so long, or it could be that a kid is being bullied and harassed at school to the point where the student is constantly thinking about how they are going to make it through another day. It could also be stresses a parent is suffering at home, either from a child that seems to be acting up or relations with the spouse are not promising and are slowly working their way to the situation where divorce might be the answer. The severe loss of appetite and the corresponding loss of weight can be caused by the stress created from any number of situations; even the loss of a close loved one.

When one is at a loss of how to deal with the stressful situation so that they can be more relaxed, it can greatly impact their health in a negative ways like loosing weight because they can’t bring themselves to eat. It happens quite often where a person is so worried or stressed about a situation that they can’t even think about food. When the worry and stress has come to such a point, it really is time that the person starts thinking about getting some help. Talking to a therapist or a counselor can be extremely helpful in that the professional can help the person address their issue(s) and then deal with it accordingly. Many people are contacting online therapists in order to ask questions or to get the help they need. Online therapy is becoming a more popular way for people to get help because they can contact a therapist from the comfort of their own home. Someone who is feeling excessively worried or stressed can easily get onto the internet, do a quick search and contact an online counselor who can help them put their worries at ease and reduce their stress. Getting this kind of help is usually beneficial because when the worries and stresses are dealt with and the person is more relaxed, they will start getting their appetite back and they can stop losing weight.
